Tax Planning
There’s nothing more certain in life than taxes and death. We can optimise your taxes and ensure your wealth stays in the family after you’ve departed.
A lot of what we do in our private client (Lasting Powers of Attorney, Wills, Probate and Administration, and Trusts) and property work delves deep into our client’s financial affairs.
Planning and optimising your tax position is money well spent.
Any single day could see us advising on Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Income Tax, Stamp Duty Land Tax (when it is required in our conveyancing work), Estate Planning, management of personal affairs (when acting as an attorney or deputy), management of trusts, and management of estates.
We make sure our clients’ affairs are structured in a way that is beneficial to them, their businesses and families. It’s about creating solid foundations now for the future.
As we’re not accountants, we don’t prepare tax returns unless they are associated with our main work, which is typically estate administration, trust administration or general affairs administration. We can’t advise upon specific financial products because we aren’t Independent Financial Advisers.

Having had nearly a 50 year relationship with a firm of solicitors in north London, I was recommended Hutchinson & Buchanan, and we moved our business to them. It was an excellent move and I have no hesitation in recommending the firm to others. Every aspect of the service they have provided has been first class, in the execution of the transaction, informal consultation and advice that has been offered on a broad range of legal issues.
INCOME TAX
We can help you to stay tax-efficient and compliant. We’ll also advise on any opportunities to reduce your tax where appropriate. Talk to us about tax compliance for individuals, trusts, estates, and companies.
STAMP DUTY TAX
Stamp Duty Land Tax is a tax payable by the purchaser on land transactions in England and Northern Ireland. It is becoming increasingly complex and often misunderstood. We can advise on a wide range of transactions, including commercial and residential properties. In an ever-changing financial environment, we can help you navigate the rules.
INHERITANCE TAX & ESTATE PLANNING
Inheritance Tax is a tax payable on the estate of someone who has died. There’s normally no Inheritance Tax to pay if the value of your estate is below the £325,000 threshold or you leave everything above the £325,000 threshold to your spouse, civil partner, a charity or a community amateur sports club. There are many ways to take advantage of the Inheritance tax rules, which can be complicated. Naturally you want to pass on as much of your wealth to your loved ones as possible.
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
Capital gains tax becomes payable when you sell an asset and make money from the sale. How much tax you pay depends on your income and the value of the asset. You do not have to pay capital gains tax if your gains for the tax year are below your yearly tax-free allowance.
WEALTH STRUCTURING
We advise on the best strategies to plan, control and protect your wealth for the future. This can involve minimising exposure to tax, investing, transferring an asset to our loved ones, and more. We aren’t Independent Financial Advisers, so we don’t provide investment advice but we’re experienced in helping people with a wide range of tools.
Every day we deal with the management of personal affairs, when acting as an attorney or deputy, as well as managing trusts and estates.
Plan your taxes and structure your financial affairs today to make tomorrow easier for you and your loved ones.
